Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Police Federica Mogherini on Wednesday evening to express his distaste with the EU’s intention to label products from settlements.
He said that for many Israelis, this recalls dark days in Europe, adding that it hardens Israeli domestic opinion.
On Thursday afternoon, the prime minister addressed the U.N. General Assembly regarding the Iran nuclear deal and conflicting relations with Palestine Authority (PA) leader Mahmoud Abbas.
Netanyahu reiterated that he is prepared to negotiate without preconditions and said that the fact that Abbas has not responded proves that the latter does not intend to reach a peace agreement.
“Israelis know the price of war; Those that know that price, can better understand what peace means,” said Netanyahu regarding peace talks with Palestine. “Despite the best efforts of six Israeli prime ministers, Palestinians consistently refuse to make peace.”
